Are you using your community’s amenities?

07.18.17

People choose to live in a particular community for various reasons. Yes, “Location, location, location!” is the most important, followed by the home’s design, but there are other factors that make a community feel like home.

Amenities can add tremendous value to your home. If you live in a neighborhood that offers resort-style and staycation amenities, you can enjoy recreation, relaxation, and friendly gatherings without getting in your car.

So, let’s say you chose a community because it offered amenities like a pool, clubhouse, fitness center, and some walking paths.

Are you using your community’s amenities? Do you take advantage of these benefits?

The fitness center, pool, and walking paths, for example, reward you with health benefits that some people seek out, and often pay to use. You can establish a fitness regime that involves walking a few times a week, swimming, and using the fitness center. Maybe you can get together with other residents to start fitness classes, like yoga, water aerobics, tai chi, and Zumba. The facilities are there. You just need to walk in and use them!

If your community has a park or community garden, get out and spend time there. Have a picnic lunch in the park. Grow vegetables in the garden, and then share your hefty harvest with neighbors (maybe suggest a swap).

Think about the social benefits of these amenities, too. The clubhouse is a gathering place. You can probably reserve it to entertain friends and family, like a Game Day, anniversary, or birthday party. Host a reading group or poker club. Find out the talents and knowledge that people in this community might be willing to share, and ask them to offer classes in the clubhouse. Cooking, art, crafts, computer skills, investing—survey the residents to learn more about the special skills in your own neighborhood.

A study by the real estate advising firm of Robert Charles Lesser & Co., reported that the following community amenities are the most desirable:

1. Parks and green spaces
2. Paved trail systems for walking, jogging, biking, etc.
3. Main street village centers with retail services and cafes for gathering and socializing
4. Outdoor, resort-style pools
5. Exercise rooms and equipment
6. Natural (unpaved) trail systems for hiking and walking

If you’re considering a move to an Epcon community, you’ll get almost everything on the list. Depending on the community you choose, you might get a few more perks, like a bocce ball or pickleball court!

Community amenities turn an address into a lifestyle. Are you ready to enjoy what’s in your own back yard?
