Locals joke that Cary is actually an acronym for “Concentrated Area of Relocated Yankees”. Less than one-third of the town’s 151,000 residents are natives of Cary. Cary is consistently ranked as one of the safest towns in America with a population of 100,000 to 500,000 people. Ranked #5 nationwide in 2017, it’s the only North Carolina town to be included in the top 25. In 2014 and 2015, according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, Cary was the safest town of its size in the country.
