Ready to Relocate? Things to Think About When Switching States

Making a move is a big deal no matter where you choose to live. Moving to a new state is an even bigger undertaking that can involve more planning. Even after you have your new home secured, it’s easy to get a bit overwhelmed navigating all the logistics. Which is why we’ve compiled a list of some things you should consider as you prepare to relocate across state lines. Don’t worry, Epcon can help make your move to a new home a smoother one.

Culture Changes

If you’ve been calling the same place home for a while, it will take some time to get adjusted to a new location. Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into by researching the surrounding area before making your move. You’ll want to know where locals go to get food and what the slang word is for soft drinks — Soda? Pop? Coke?

You could also be moving to a new region with a whole new weather pattern. Whether you’ll have more months of warmth or find yourself in a frostier setting, you’re going to want to make sure that you have the proper attire. Maybe you can ditch your bulky jackets before the move, or you might need to buy a new pair of rain boots — either way it’s good to plan ahead.

Financial Factors

There’s no question about it: moving is expensive. Even if you skip out on a moving company, you’ll still have to factor in the costs for the road trip. Depending on how many miles sit between you and your new home state, this can be a costly up-front expense of thousands of dollars. Are your belongings covered by insurance between houses? You may need to get additional coverage if not.

Once you’re settled into your new home and past closing and moving costs, there are still going to be some money-related expenses you should look into. Taxes are different in every state, so it will be important to get educated on the local specifics for income, property and sales tax. For your first year, you may have to file taxes in both your previous state and new state!

Smooth Settling

After you arrive in your new hometown, the journey has only just begun. Now you’ll want to get your new home organized just how you like it.

If you’re moving to an older home, this would also be the time to do a deep clean of, well, everything. Someone else has already lived there so there’s a good chance you’ll run into a little extra dirt and even discover some needed home upgrades in the process. Of course, if you’re moving into a new Epcon home, everything will already be in mint condition and ready for you to begin living a low-maintenance lifestyle immediately.

Our QualityMark® assurance program means that your home will undergo a thorough third-party rating process before you even take the keys. You can enjoy this added peace of mind. Epcon communities are built new, so the only thing you need to worry about is enjoying your new home and community.
